Classic white balance issue–fix the white balance and this would probably fare better. Though to be fair, a shot full of pastries will have a hard time because they’re so much yellow to begin with. Yellow things are hard to photograph without looking like the white balance is off! Try to get something white in there for contrast (and to have a point of reference for what white should be in the shot in post-process).

Other suggestions: the mirror effect is creative and unique, but visually cluttery here, especially when reduced in size. I acknowledge (and am guilty of) the overuse of white plates, but it makes for a more identifiable shot which is why I seem to always go back to it.

Also, reflecting some light to the front of the shot with a white card will highlight the flakiness in the same way the mirror does here.

Hope my tome here helps (rather than making me sound like a douche!).

I’m writing here today because of your reply to Heather. I like what you said. I think your onto something, sharing a part of your day and not always echoing her sadness. Well said. I look forward to checking out your blog when I get home and in front of my computer. Currently sitting in an airport with serious flight delays, my crazy kids and a husband that I love but am now officially tired of! Long vacation, we all need a break from each other. Lots to blog about. Will be reading you soon. M
